Cove’s affordable DIY-installed security systems include a 60-day trial. We wish the company had more equipment options, but the pros outweigh the cons with this nimble business. Our Cove security review concluded that the company’s products are among the most affordable in the industry, and the company scored an 8.9 out of 10 based on our rating system. Just like using a phone, the company’s panel allows you to have a two-way conversation with an emergency response team. However, the Cove Plus plan also adds on a lifetime equipment warranty, smartphone control, smart home voice control , and a lifetime monitoring rate-lock guarantee. In the box, you’ll find a tiny booklet titled “Start Here.” In it are four easy steps for do-it-yourself installation.

So, if there's a promotion going on right now, take advantage and snag your equipment on the cheap. Every house has different vulnerabilities and risks based on their floor plan. Cove gives you the freedom to choose any combination of their available equipment to sufficiently cover your household.

One of the reasons Cove can get you equipment so cheap is because they require you to sign up for monthly monitoring. Basic starts at $15 per month, and premium is $25 monthly. That's still lower than virtually all professionally monitored systems. Nevertheless, you straight up can't be a Cove customer unless you sign up for monthly monitoring.
If the system isn't everything you hoped and dreamed of, send it back at no cost to you. Cove also has a lifetime warranty for all their equipment, so you can rest assured, if something breaks, they are there for you. Cove is completely self-contained, but that means it’s also completely isolated from everything else you might have going on.

Sensitivity settings can be crudely adjusted if you crack open the sensor and adjust dip switches inside, but I suspect that will be well beyond the comfort level of Cove’s intended audience. It’s utilitarian and chunky but functional, and most of the gear is on the large side. The CO monitor and smoke detector in particular look as though they were designed for a motel than the average suburban home. Home security made ultra-easy, with the option of paying nothing for the system up front. However, there is no way to make the panel randomly and loudly announcing "Panel Communication Failure" unless I pay to reconnect my system to monitoring.

The Cove mobile app is available for those who decide to fork-over the cash for Cove Plus. We wish that cove would include this functionality in the Basic tier, but, alas, you’ll need to spend a few more of your hard earned dollars. Next, you’ll want to consider placing window sensors, also $6.00 per unit, on any ground floor windows. To set up an effective home security system, you’ll want to ensure that you have enough security equipment to properly monitor your space. The control panel is the brains of any home security system. And as far as control panels go, Cove’s is right up there with the best of them.
We have had our Cove system for almost a year. Customer service has been super awesome when I’ve had questions. I obviously would recommend this product to anyone. Cove’s mobile app is the weakest link in the ecosystem. While extremely limited in function (basically it’s only good for turning the system on and off), it also manages to be obtuse in design. Click the sensors tab and you get a list of sensors, some of which can be “bypassed,” along with some cryptic status messages. Presumably, bypassing a sensor enables you to arm the system even if you leave a window open.
